Beatrix, along with her young brother, Bertram, developed an interest in nature and animals at an early age.She enjoyed trips to museums and she was introduced to Pre-Raphaelite painter Sir John Everett Millais, from whom she got encouragement and inspiration. Educated at home, she had few opportunities to meet other children her age. Rupert, although trained as a lawyer, devoted himself to photography and art while Helen was skilled at embroidery and watercolors.Being born a daughter of the Victorian upper-middle class, Beatrix had a typically restricted childhood. Both her parents, Rupert and Helen Potter, had artistic interests.
